Anticipate your budget
March 12 2024If you opt for a student residence or co-living, the monthly rent will include at least water, electricity and Wi-Fi connection, and sometimes civil liability insurance; this will not be the case for private rental accommodation, where you will often have to pay these charges in addition to the rent, as well as civil liability and multi-risk home insurance, which is more expensive than in a residence.
In addition, student residences managed by private landlords may have requirements regarding the leasing of the accommodation : despite the start of the academic year at the beginning of September, a landlord may ask you to pay the rent as soon as the accommodation becomes available, to ensure that the reservation is made, even during the summer months.
To calculate your accommodation budget accurately, you should also take into account the entry or application fee (€50 to €450, depending on the residence). You will also be asked to pay a security deposit, generally equivalent to one month’s rent.
Food, transport, health and leisure… In addition to accommodation-related expenses, preparing your overall monthly budget can help you avoid unpleasant surprises. AgroParisTech provides you with a budget simulator to estimate the cost of your academic year.
